Family Life Education
The Family Life Program of Catholic Social Services of Summit County provides parents with education on the basic stages of child development and how the parent can support his or her child through each developmental stage. This program promotes healthy families through education, child development services, advocacy and linkages to formal and informal family supports. Child health issues, accident prevention and parent and family health issues and nutrition are addressed in this parent education program. Other topics covered are anger and stress management, communication and how to effectively promote positive self-esteem in young children.
Services include:
- Help Me Grow program, providing in-home child development service coordination for families with children ages 0 - 3.
- Parent Education classes for families with children ages 0 - 18
- GED class site through Akron Public Schools
Parent Education 8 Week Course
The Parent Education Program is designed to create awareness regarding children’s developmental needs, promote the growth and development of the parent/caregiver, and encourage the characteristics and discipline practices that create a healthy, supportive environment for children.
- Registration is required prior to attending.
- Class fees for the Parent Education course are on a sliding fee scale based on household income. Financial assistance may be available to those who qualify.
- Sessions are offered evenings
